Short answer: The right water filter in Bangladesh depends on your water source. For most homes on WASA supply or tube-well water, a 5-stage reverse osmosis (RO) water filter is the safest choice, because it removes dissolved salts, heavy metals such as arsenic and iron, and bacteria. Choose 50 GPD for a small family, 100 GPD for a larger family or small office, and a commercial RO system for factories, schools and shops. Texcel International Ltd. in Dhaka, the exclusive Bangladesh agent of Deng Yuan, supplies RO water filters and parts across the country. Call or WhatsApp 01915-514116.

Why you need a water filter in Bangladesh
Tap water in Dhaka and other cities can pick up dirt, rust and bacteria from old pipes and rooftop tanks. In many districts, tube-well water contains arsenic, iron or manganese. In coastal areas, groundwater is often salty. Boiling kills germs but does not remove arsenic, iron, salts or chemicals, and it can even concentrate them. A good water filter treats all of these problems before the water reaches your glass. For a full overview, read our guide to safe drinking water in Bangladesh.
Types of water filter
1. Reverse osmosis (RO) water filter
An RO water filter pushes water through a membrane with pores of about 0.0001 micron. It blocks dissolved salts, heavy metals, bacteria and viruses, and lets only clean water through. Most home RO filters have five stages:
- Sediment filter (PP, 5 micron): removes sand, rust and dirt.
- Granular carbon filter: removes chlorine, bad smell and colour.
- Carbon block filter: removes remaining chlorine and organic chemicals and protects the membrane.
- RO membrane: removes dissolved salts, arsenic, lead, fluoride, bacteria and viruses.
- Post-carbon filter: polishes the taste before the water reaches the faucet.
Some models add a mineral stage, a UV lamp or hot and cold dispensing. Learn more in our step-by-step guide to the Deng Yuan RO water filter.
2. UV water filter
A UV sterilizer kills bacteria and viruses with ultraviolet light. It does not remove arsenic, iron, salts or chemicals, so on its own it suits only water that is already low in dissolved solids. In Bangladesh, UV is most useful as an extra stage after an RO membrane or a carbon filter.
3. Carbon and sediment filters
Simple filter cartridges in a housing remove dirt, rust, chlorine and bad smell. They are cheap to run and make a good pre-filter for a whole house, but they do not remove dissolved metals or salts.
4. Gravity and candle filters
Ceramic candle and gravity filters need no electricity and remove some dirt and germs. They are slow and cannot remove arsenic or salts, so they are a basic option rather than a full solution.
5. Industrial and commercial RO systems
Factories, hospitals, schools, restaurants and bottled water plants need hundreds or thousands of litres per hour. Commercial RO systems and industrial RO systems use larger membranes, stainless steel housings, high-pressure pumps and media filters such as sand, activated carbon and resin.
Which water filter is right for your water source?
| Water source | Common problems | Recommended filter |
|---|---|---|
| WASA / city supply | Dirt, rust, chlorine, bacteria from pipes and tanks | 5-stage RO water filter |
| Tube-well / deep well | Arsenic, iron, manganese, hardness | RO water filter, with an iron removal or sediment pre-filter if iron is high |
| Coastal areas | High salt (TDS) | RO water filter; commercial RO for high volumes |
| Pond, river or rain water | Mud, bacteria, organic matter | Sediment and carbon pre-filters plus RO and UV |
| Factory or water plant | Large volumes, mixed contaminants | Industrial RO with media filtration |
If you are not sure what is in your water, test the TDS (total dissolved solids) with a meter from our test kit range, or ask a lab to test for arsenic and iron.
How to choose a home water filter: 6 checks
1. Capacity (GPD)
GPD means gallons per day. A 50 GPD filter makes about 190 litres a day, enough for a family of four to six. Choose 100 GPD for a larger family, a joint family or a small office, and 300 GPD or more for offices and shops.
2. Installation space
- Under-sink RO water filters hide in the kitchen cabinet with a separate faucet, for example the Deng Yuan TW-1250 (50/100 GPD) and TW-12100 (100 GPD).
- Counter top water purifiers need no plumbing work and suit rented flats, for example the Deng Yuan THC-1550 with a built-in 15 litre tank and the Ko Jine KJ-R100.
- Wall-mounted units such as the Deng Yuan DY-RO2000 save counter space.
- Hot and cold RO water purifiers combine filtration with a dispenser for offices and homes.
3. Water pressure and booster pump
An RO membrane needs pressure to work. Most homes in Bangladesh have low tap pressure, so the filter should include a booster pump matched to its GPD rating, such as the Ko Jine KJ-2500 for 50 GPD or the KJ-2600 for 100 GPD.
4. Storage tank
RO filters make water slowly, so a pressurised storage tank keeps clean water ready. Home systems commonly use a 3.2 or 5 gallon tank.
5. Genuine parts and filter changes
The cost of a water filter is not only the machine. You will change sediment and carbon cartridges every 6 to 12 months and the RO membrane every 2 to 3 years, depending on water quality. Choose a brand whose genuine RO membranes and cartridges are easy to find in Bangladesh.
6. Brand and origin
Many RO water filters sold in Bangladesh are unbranded. Deng Yuan and Ko Jine systems are made in Taiwan, and their pumps, membranes and cartridges are interchangeable within the same group, which makes servicing simple.
Water filter maintenance schedule
| Part | Typical change interval |
|---|---|
| Sediment (PP) filter | 6 to 12 months |
| Carbon filters (granular and block) | 6 to 12 months |
| Post-carbon filter | About 12 months |
| RO membrane | 2 to 3 years |
| UV lamp (if fitted) | About 12 months |
Change filters sooner if the water is very dirty, the flow drops or the taste changes. Sanitise the storage tank when you change the membrane.

Frequently asked questions
Which water filter is best for home use in Bangladesh?
For most homes, a 5-stage RO water filter with a booster pump is the best choice, because it removes arsenic, iron, salts and bacteria that boiling and simple filters cannot remove. Pick 50 GPD for a small family and 100 GPD for a larger one.
Does an RO water filter remove arsenic?
Yes. A working RO membrane removes most dissolved arsenic, along with lead, fluoride and salts. Replace the membrane on time so it keeps working.
Is RO water safe to drink every day?
Yes. RO water is safe to drink. RO also lowers natural minerals, so some people choose a model with a mineral stage, and a balanced diet supplies the minerals the body needs.
What is the difference between RO and UV water filters?
RO removes dissolved salts, metals and germs by forcing water through a membrane. UV only kills germs with light and does not remove arsenic, iron or salts. For tube-well or high-TDS water, choose RO.
How often should I change my water filter cartridges?
Change the sediment and carbon cartridges every 6 to 12 months and the RO membrane every 2 to 3 years. Change them sooner if the water is dirty or the flow slows down.
